Vocational Trainer – Welding (Contract)

Bintulu Skills & Technical Academy is a JPK-accredited vocational training provider running certificate programmes in welding, electrical, and industrial safety for the oil and gas sector, placing most graduates directly into local employers. Our trainers change lives by turning trainees into employable, certified tradespeople. It is a genuinely rewarding role for an experienced welder who wants to pass on their craft, works well with people of varying skill levels, and takes pride in seeing their trainees walk straight into real jobs in the local industry.

We need a Welding Trainer for a nine-month cohort under our JPK-accredited certificate programme, teaching both theory and hands-on workshop sessions to a class of 15 trainees heading toward real industry placements. You'll deliver lessons, assess competency against JPK standards, and prepare trainees for certification and employment. It suits a skilled, patient welder with the ability to teach clearly, enforce workshop safety consistently, and genuinely care about getting each trainee to the standard local employers expect from them on day one.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver welding theory and hands-on workshop sessions clearly
• Assess trainee competency against JPK standards
• Maintain workshop equipment and enforce safety compliance
• Prepare trainees thoroughly for JPK certification assessments
• Track trainee attendance and progress records
• Liaise with local employers on trainee placement readiness
• Support and motivate trainees of varying skill levels

Requirements

• Certified welder (minimum 6G qualification) with training experience
• JPK trainer certification preferred, or willingness to obtain it
• Patient, clear communicator with trainees of varying skill levels
• Comfortable enforcing workshop safety standards consistently
• Genuine interest in developing people
