Senior Accountant

KENYALANG CAPITAL ADVISORY is an accounting, tax, and corporate advisory firm serving small and medium enterprises across Sarawak. From bookkeeping and statutory audit liaison to company secretarial work and tax planning, we act as the outsourced finance department for owner-managed businesses that have outgrown a single in-house bookkeeper. Our clients span trading, construction, plantation, and professional services, and many of them have grown alongside us over the years, which makes the relationships genuinely long-term rather than transactional.

We're hiring a Senior Accountant to take full ownership of a portfolio of SME clients — preparing complete sets of accounts, managing statutory audit and tax liaison, and supervising two junior accountants. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that suits someone who enjoys variety across different industries rather than the repetition of a single company's ledgers. You'll report directly to a partner, have real influence over how each client's accounting function is run, and be trusted to keep the whole portfolio compliant and on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complete sets of accounts for a portfolio of 15 to 20 SME clients through to trial balance and management accounts
• Liaise with external auditors and tax agents on statutory filings, year-end audit queries, and supporting schedules
• Review the work prepared by two junior accountants and provide structured on-the-job coaching and feedback
• Advise clients on basic tax planning, cash flow management, and their ongoing statutory compliance obligations
• Ensure statutory and tax filing deadlines are met consistently across the entire portfolio without lapses
• Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports tailored to each client's operating needs and industry
• Support the onboarding of new clients' accounting records, opening balances, and software migration
• Keep current with MFRS, LHDN, and SSM developments relevant to the firm's SME client base

Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, or ACCA/CIMA/MICPA part-qualified or finalist status
• At least 4 years accounting experience, ideally gained in an audit or accounting firm environment
• Proficient in SQL Account, AutoCount, or a comparable accounting software package
• Strong working knowledge of Malaysian tax and statutory filing requirements for SMEs
• Confident dealing directly with business owners and explaining financial numbers in plain language
