Job Description
Mukah Rural Education Foundation is a non-profit running literacy and after-school programmes for children in longhouse communities around Mukah, funded through a mix of grants and community partnerships. Our work reaches children who would otherwise have little access to extra learning support, and it depends on committed, resourceful people willing to travel to where the children are. It is a deeply rewarding role for someone community-minded who wants their work to make a tangible difference to children's futures in genuinely underserved rural settlements.
This is a twelve-month contract role running after-school literacy programmes for children in longhouse communities around Mukah, including regular travel to remote settlements to reach children who wouldn't otherwise get extra support. You'll deliver literacy sessions, track progress, and build relationships with communities to support attendance. It suits a patient, self-directed, community-minded person, ideally with some teaching or tutoring experience, who is comfortable working independently in remote locations and genuinely motivated by helping children build the literacy foundations they need.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver structured literacy sessions to small groups of children
- Track student progress and report to the foundation's programme director
- Coordinate logistics for travel to longhouse communities
- Distribute and manage learning materials across sites
- Build relationships with community leaders to support attendance
- Adapt session materials to varying literacy levels within a group
- Encourage a positive, welcoming attitude toward learning

Requirements
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Education or a related field
- Comfortable travelling to rural longhouse communities
- Patient and community-minded, ideally with teaching or tutoring experience
- Able to work with minimal on-site supervision in remote locations
- Resourceful, reliable, and genuinely motivated by the mission
