Process Safety Engineer

SIMILAJAU PETROCHEMICAL CONTRACTORS supports process safety across plant modification and turnaround projects for petrochemical clients in the Similajau industrial park, with process safety treated as a standalone discipline rather than an afterthought. It is a role for someone technically rigorous and principled, who is comfortable challenging designs that compromise safety margins and can back their position with sound engineering.

We're hiring a Process Safety Engineer to lead HAZOP studies, maintain safety case documentation, and support incident investigations across our petrochemical plant projects, working closely with project engineering teams. You'll be the technical conscience on safety-critical decisions, facilitating studies, reviewing management-of-change requests, and tracking process safety performance. It suits an experienced engineer who genuinely believes that robust process safety is what keeps plants and people safe, and who has the technical depth and steadiness to make that case convincingly to project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate HAZOP and other structured process safety studies
• Maintain and update safety case documentation across projects
• Support incident investigations and rigorous root cause analysis
• Review management-of-change requests for process safety impact
• Track process safety KPIs and report meaningful trends to management
• Advise project teams on safety-critical design decisions
• Prepare and deliver process safety training materials for site personnel

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering
• At least 5 years of process safety experience in oil and gas or petrochemical
• Experienced and confident HAZOP facilitator
• Able to push back on design decisions that compromise safety margins
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
