Junior Site Engineer (Internship)

Samarahan Civil Works specialises in roadworks, drainage, and earthworks for government projects across the Kota Samarahan district, and takes on civil engineering interns each intake to help build its future site team. We give interns real exposure to live government infrastructure contracts, working alongside our site engineers and QS team rather than sitting in an office on made-up tasks. It is a genuinely practical placement for a civil engineering student who wants to understand how real site work happens and to leave with useful, demonstrable experience.

This is a supervised internship shadowing our site engineers on active roadworks and drainage projects, offering good exposure to real government infrastructure contracts rather than classroom simulations. You'll assist with setting-out and level checks, help compile site records, and sit in on coordination meetings to see how a site is really run. It suits a keen civil engineering student who is willing to be on-site regularly, ask plenty of questions, and get hands-on experience of the day-to-day realities of construction site management.

Key responsibilities

• Shadow site engineers during daily site inspections
• Assist with basic setting-out and level checks
• Help compile progress photos and site records
• Learn BQ measurement basics alongside the QS team
• Sit in on subcontractor coordination meetings to observe site management
• Keep organised notes on works observed and lessons learned

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering
• Willing to be on-site regularly rather than remote
• Available for a minimum three-month placement
• Comfortable asking questions when site instructions are unclear
• Keen, reliable, and eager to learn
