DevOps Engineer (Contract)

Kenyalang Digital builds custom software and cloud infrastructure for banks, government agencies, and SMEs across East Malaysia, with a growing platform team supporting live production systems for regional financial clients where uptime genuinely matters. We take reliability seriously because our clients' operations depend on it, and we're bringing in specialist help to level up our infrastructure properly rather than patching things together as we grow. This is a chance to build something solid from the ground up.

This is a six-month contract, extendable, to migrate our infrastructure from a single VPS to a proper Kubernetes setup on a regional cloud provider. It is fully remote, with daily overlap with our Kuching team, and a clear handover plan built into the engagement from day one. We want someone who can not only stand up modern infrastructure but also leave the in-house team genuinely able to run and extend it confidently after the contract ends.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for four production services
• Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting from scratch across the whole platform
• Migrate existing services from a single VPS to a managed Kubernetes cluster
• Document the new infrastructure thoroughly for the in-house team to take over
• Run load testing to validate the new setup properly before cutover
• Pair with in-house engineers throughout the transition to transfer operational knowledge
• Plan and execute the production cutover with a documented, tested rollback path
• Advise on sensible cost and security trade-offs for the new environment

Requirements

• Proven, hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production
• Comfortable with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision against clear milestones
• Available for daily standups in Malaysia time (GMT+8)
• Experience handing over infrastructure to a team that will own it afterward
