Backend Developer (Python)

SANTUBONG SOFTWARE SDN BHD is a product engineering house building SaaS tools for logistics and retail clients across Malaysia. Spun out of a university research project in 2018, we now serve customers well beyond Sarawak's borders, and our engineers own meaningful parts of a product used daily by real businesses. We're hiring a Backend Developer to work on our logistics scheduling SaaS product, which is used by trucking and courier companies across Malaysia. You'll own a substantial chunk of the API layer and work closely with our two frontend developers on shared feature delivery. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building robust services, thinking about data models, and seeing features through from planning to production rather than working in narrow isolation.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain Django and FastAPI services powering our scheduling engine
• Write and maintain integration tests for critical booking and dispatch flows
• Participate actively in fortnightly sprint planning and estimation
• Investigate and fix production bugs reported by the support team
• Review teammates' pull requests thoughtfully for correctness and style
• Contribute to internal documentation for onboarding future hires
• Propose schema and API changes as the scheduling engine's requirements evolve
• Monitor service performance and address slow queries proactively

Requirements

• At least 3 years of Python backend experience with Django, Flask, or FastAPI
• Comfortable with relational databases and basic SQL performance tuning
• Able to work from our Kuching office at least three days a week
• Experience shipping features end to end, not just isolated tickets
• Comfortable reading and reviewing other engineers' code constructively
